Grant Overview

Building Community Services Through Data Systems in New Hampshire

New Hampshire faces unique challenges in efficiently delivering community services, especially in rural areas where residents may be distributed over large geographic spaces. A 2021 report from the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services highlighted that 86% of rural communities lack sufficient data systems necessary for effective resource allocation and service delivery, leading to gaps in access to critical services such as housing, healthcare, and employment assistance.

The groups most affected by these gaps include elderly residents, low-income families, and individuals with disabilities. The rural nature of many New Hampshire towns means that residents often struggle to access vital services due to limited availability and inadequate transportation options. The disconnect between service providers and community needs creates a frustrating cycle where services are underutilized or misallocated, ultimately impacting the quality of life for residents.

The Foundation’s grant will focus on implementing robust data systems that enhance community service delivery throughout New Hampshire. By collaborating with local nonprofits and government agencies, the initiative aims to develop integrated data platforms that ensure resources are allocated efficiently and effectively. This funding will support technology upgrades and training for staff, empowering them with the tools needed to analyze and respond to community needs effectively.

The desired outcomes of this initiative are to improve the responsiveness of community services and to increase user satisfaction ratings among those accessing these services by at least 40% over the next 18 months. By fostering collaboration between agencies and enhancing data utilization, New Hampshire aims to streamline services and promote better outcomes for vulnerable populations.

Unlike neighboring Vermont, which has a more centralized approach to service delivery, New Hampshire's initiative emphasizes localized data systems tailored to meet the diverse needs of its residents spread across rural areas. This focus on data-driven decision making will not only improve service delivery but will also enhance the capacity of local organizations to adapt and meet the needs of their communities.
